FF’s Lausch shoots 77 at state meet

JORDAN — Fergus Falls’ Keaton Lausch found himself in 32nd place after one day of golf at the Ridges at Sand Creek.
Sophomore Lausch shot a 77, 10 strokes back on leader Karter Smith of Detroit Lakes.
The Lakers lead the state team event after shooting a 291, while Staples-Motley is right on their heels in second place with a 294.
Otter Tail Central’s Kaleb Thalmann currently sits tied for eighth after shooting a day one total of 78 in Class a, while West Central’s Matt Wagner shot a 82 to put him in the middle of the pack at Pebble Creek in Becker.
Lausch will hit the links at 12:18 p.m. Wednesday, while Class a golfers Wagner and Thalmann will begin second round play at 11:58 a.m. and 12:16 p.m.
In the girls Class AA state tournament, local golfers struggled at Sand Creek with Perham junior Rachel Nelson shooting a day one round of 91, while Pelican Rapids freshman Alexa Bekkerus shot a 92.
Kate Smith of Detroit Lakes leads the pack after shooting a 70 in the first day.
Smith’s team currently sits at the top of the leader board, leading by 27 strokes, with a 308.
Day two tee times have Bekkerus on the course at 7:39 a.m. and Nelson at 7:48 a.m. Wednesday.
