Solid scores are plentiful

SEBRING A field of 80 golfers turned out at Sun ‘N Lakes Golf Club on Saturday morning to compete in the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce Spring Golf Classic. The four-person scramble was played on the challenging Deer Run course.

The field was broken into three flights and the winning team in the first flight was Marty’s Wilson’s foursome, which carded a solid score of 58 to take home the title.

There was a two-way tie for second place, with the team of Pete Coughlin, Keith Ruley, Mike Sayre and Don Sebastian taking second-place honors on the basis of matching cards, with the team of Blake Liles, Geoff Fisk, Jowl Walkup and Jimmy Tsakalos settling for third place.

It was a real dogfight in the second flight, as the top three teams all entered the clubhouse with scores of 67. On the basis of matching cards, the team of Matt Hall, Warren Hall, Chip boring and Steve Piccione claimed first place; the foursome of John Hendrick, Derek Melvin, Gibran Feniello and Anthony Gaines grabbed second place; and the team of Fred Blake, Dave Onsted, Jack Perrin and Jimmy Acevedo placed third.

In the third flight, the team of Len Brown, Fred Homrich, Jack Bish and Doug Grolau ran away from the field with a solid score of 65. The foursome of Barry Bittner, Mike Traedge, Brett Goldman and Ken Danielson placed second with a 69 and the third-place team, with a score of 73, consisted of Jerry Coville, Joe Shorts, bill Scrase and Rob Hardy.
