Odyssey Brings Adjustability To Putters

Adjustability has been all the rage in drivers, fairway metals and hybrids in recent years. Now, it is becoming a factor in putters, as evidenced by the introduction of the Odyssey Flip Face.
The Flip Face allows golfers to choose between two face inserts in one putter – the newer Metal-X or the venerable White Ice – and do so simply by unscrewing a single component in the self-contained putter head (with a screwdriver that doubles as a divot tool) to rotate the face 180 degrees.
The idea, Odyssey officials say, is to offer players different feel and performance attributes in one club as well as the ability to make adjustments based on the conditions of the courses they are playing, or the golf balls they may be using.
Metal-X is a dual-layered insert, with a striking layer made of lightweight aluminum and an inner layer made of urethane. The oval depressions on its clubface are designed to maximize the mechanical lock with the dimples of a golf ball to increase friction and impart optimum ball launch for a more controlled and consistent forward roll. Austie Rollinson, principal designer for Odyssey Golf, describes Metal X as being “a little firmer” and says it will induce the ball to roll “a little faster.”
As for the White Ice insert, it employs a multi-layer piece of technology that Rollinson says has been fine-tuned for use in the Flip Face line to enhance sound, responsiveness, resiliency and consistency. in addition, its face surface has been roughened to increase friction with softer golf balls, in order to promote a better forward roll and a better sound at impact.
The Flip Face comes with a satin chrome finish and Lamkin 3GEN Pistol grips and is available in three Odyssey models: the #1, which is a rounded heel-toe weighted blade with a crank-neck hosel and full-shaft offset; the #5, a rounded mallet with a single-bend shaft and full-shaft offset; and the #9, a toe-weighted, heel-shafted flanged blade with a long hosel and half-shaft offset.

Editor’s note: Steve Charters is in his 10th year as a pro at Twin Pines Golf course. Born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Charters competed at Central College in Pella and has been a pro for 17 years in Dubuque and Cedar Rapids.
While I can’t believe it’s August already and back to school sales are in full swing, it’s never too late to look at upgrading your equipment.
One upgrade in equipment that has taken off in the last seven or eight years is the switch from a traditional long iron to a club called a hybrid.
Hybrids have been around in some form or another for the last 15 to 20 years, but have really become a big hit in the last seven or eight. so why such a surge in hybrids over long irons? the answer is simple.
A hybrid has more of a fairway wood looking head with a shaft the length of whatever long iron you’re replacing.
The biggest reason they’ve gained favor over long irons is that the shape of the head allows the weight inside the head to be moved from the face of the club, back to the lower rear of the club. This allows for higher launching shots that land softer, thus allowing a better opportunity to hold a green from further away. the design of the head also allows for a larger sweet spot on the club which will help the shots that miss the center of the face go farther than they would with a traditional long iron.
In a nut shell, a hybrid will give you more forgiveness and higher softer shots into greens which will help you have a better ability to hold those greens that you may have struggled to hold before with the less forgiving, lower shots hit by your long irons.

Hybrid Golf Clubs – Replace Those Hard to Hit Irons With Hybrids : Golf Irons City

Most golfers already know that hybrid golf clubs are a great alternative for those torturous long irons — 3, 4 and even 5 irons… get rid of them. Hybrids are easier to hit, longer, straighter, and provide more versatility than their iron counterparts.
First, if you are not using hybrid golf clubs, the burning question would have to be why not? what are you waiting for? Hybrids should be strongly considered for replacing many clubs in your bag and here’s a few reasons why.R9 フェアウェイウッド
Hybrids are easier to hit than irons, especially the longer irons. why?Article Source golfironscity.com/ first, longer irons have a relatively small sweet spot. in addition, the center of gravity is positioned much further back in hybrids. when the center of gravity is set back, it provides a higher launch angle resulting in a higher ball trajectory. Easier to hit.
Hybrid golf clubs are longer than their iron counterparts. why? again, the center of gravity plays a key role. Another often overlooked reason is shaft length — hybrids shafts are longer than their iron For details, please refer to golfzonejp.com/ counterpart. For example, the average shaft length for a 3 iron is around 38.5″ while the equivalent 20 degree hybrid is 41″. Longer.CB710アイアン
Hybrid golf clubs are straighter than irons. why? again, the larger sweet spot plays a big role, this provides a larger hitting area that results in more forgiveness. Straighter.
Hybrid golf clubs offer more versatility than irons. why? Well, you can use a hybrid in a number of situations, out of fairway bunkers, “bump and runs,” long par 4 approach shots, long par 3′s, out of the rough, and even off the tee when accuracy is a premium. The list is almost endless. More versatile.712 MBアイアン
There are a number of very good hybrid makers. Some of the more popular hybrids come from Adams, Callaway, Ping, Taylormade, Cleveland and Nickent. There are a number of other manufacturers that make comparable hybrids but just may not have the marketing budget or, have put the R&D dollars in other areas — Bazooka, Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones, Cobra, Mizuno, Nike, Tommy Armour, and Wilson to name a few. in upcoming articles, we will offer some insight and advice for some of these hybrids.
As you can see hybrid golf clubs offer many things that longer irons simply cannot match, especially for the recreational player. Today, it is rare to see even the most accomplished players not carry at least one hybrid — PGA tour players are even making the switch. if you haven’t tried one yet, you owe it to yourself to look at the hybrid golf club to improve your game.R11アイアン

TALKIN’ GOLF: Andy Morse earns berth in US Senior Open

back in the day, long before long putters, when permission drives rules and nobody ever heard of offset, perimeter weighting or titanium clubs or hybrids, Weymouth had a handful of terrific golfers and what made it amazing was that Weymouth did not have a golf course.
There was Crash Nash, who could hit the ball from one area code to the other. and there was Tom Rooney, whose play was steady and so calm under pressure, you couldn’t tell if he was 5-under par or 5-over par. and there was Andy Morse, one of the most likeable golfers, but someone who seemed snake-bitten from the time he began playing in big tournaments.
He was never a Country Club hiho, Morse learned his game, playing at working class Ponkapoag Golf course in Canton, then famous for its band of golf characters, where $2 Nassaus could turn into three- and four-digit wagers.
Morse was a natural. Only bad luck prevented him from winning the 1983 Massachusetts Open—he mismarked his ball on the 17th green at Charles River, giving the title to Dana Quigley. He finally captured the State Open and owned it for a few years, winning at Oak Hill in 1989 and at Taconic in 1992.
He’s won just about everything in the region. Morse also won back-to-back New England Opens in 1986 and ‘87. He made a complete sweep of winning the Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire opens in 1989. He followed the sun honing his skills. In the winter, he played the Southern Africa Tour for two winters in the late 1980s.
He once had a great run on the mini-tours. Morse played on the Hooters Tour from 1995 to 1999, winning seven tournaments, including four in a row. He also qualified for the first of his three appearances in the US Open during that stretch.
For parts of 15 years, he played on the Nationwide Tour, winning the Utah Open in 2000. that year his scoring average was 70.16.
one amazing stat is that he has made 16 Hole-In-Ones during competitive play. that doesn’t mean friendly rounds with buddies or practice rounds, but in tournament action.
He always seemed to be on the verge of breaking through, making it to the final stage of PGA Qualifying School, only to miss.
For many years he worked and represented Blue Hills CC when his biggest supporter, Vinnie Del Zoppo ruled the rooster from his pro shop perch.

now plus 50, Morse has not given up the dream of a big pay day.
He signed up and tried to qualify for the US Senior Open against nearly 100 other professional golfers, who battled for two berths at the treacherous Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro on June 20.
Morse preserved on a day that temperatures flirted with the 100-degree mark. He fashioned an even-par 72, good enough for the second spot in the championship, which will be held on July 12-15 at Indianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich.
