As I mentioned in last week’s article, the set-up is very important when hitting the golf ball from uneven lies. Once you adjust your setup and focus on a smooth transition from the top of your swing, you’ll be more confident in your ability to hit successful, consistent shots from downhill lies. Keep these tips in mind as you approach your shot.

1. Ball position is in the middle or slightly back in stance.

2. Adjust shoulders as much as possible to match the slope of the ground.

3. Move your rear foot back slightly to level the hips. Keep your back leg flexed on the backswing.

4. Take a more lofted club (i.e. 8 or 9 iron instead of a 7 iron), since the slope of the ground will decrease the loft of the shot. The ball will fly lower and roll more once it hits the ground.

5. make an effort to maintain posture throughout the entire motion while swinging with the slope.

Remember, the more you practice these shots from uneven lies, the more comfortable and successful you will be in hitting the shot.

When do you hit a lob wedge? this golf shot is used when you need to hit your ball up and over a bunker, tree, etc. to a tight pin placement.

One of the things that confuse many amateur golfers is all the different types of wedges that are available. You have a 56, 58, 60 and even higher degrees of loft in wedges. how do you know which to choose?

One thing that helps in knowing which to choose is the fact that the higher the loft, the harder it is to hit. Most golf pros agree that a 58 or 60 degree lob wedge is all you need.

Another thing to remember is what is termed the bounce angle. While this may seem like a geometry lesson so to speak, it’s not. You’ll want 10-12 degrees of bounce in your wedge.
